About Scully

My name is Chris Scully.
Its actually Christine but I pity anybody who calls me that on purpose, prepare to get punched.

Never the less most people just call me Scully.

I've had Type 1 Diabetes for 10 years. To read my diagnosis story click here.  After many years of being a blogging spectator, I finally decided to start my own. I am, of course, proud to be Canadian and I'd love to get the Canadian Diabetes Online Community even bigger!

I am a lover of all things outdoors, the lists are endless and with changing seasons comes forever changing outdoor hobbies. I'm an avid cyclist which is probably at the top of my list perhaps tied with my adoration for running. I hope to bring to the D-OC stories and experiences I've had with athletics and managing Type 1.

I've taken my Type 1 partner everywhere. Including living 2 years in Taiwan as well as 6 months backpacking South-East Asia. Type 1 has come with me on many multi-day backpacking trips in both the heat of the summer and the dead cold of the winter. Type 1 also joined me on my quest and successful completion of many running races, and in October of 2011 I finished my first marathon!

Diabetes will never stop me from doing what I love as it is a spectator in my life, and not a player. At least that's what I tell myself to ward off the pessimism from time to time.  It takes me tremendous amounts of effort to manage the factors but it's worth it for me to look back while flying by on my bike and say "F you diabetes, you don't tell me what I can't do!"  Although sometimes, it sticks its nose where it doesn't belong.  Sometimes it decides for me.  I try not to dwell on those interruptions.

I am also human and have lots of stationary interests as well.  I am an Architectural Technologist (read: CAD Monkey) and I work for a large home builder.
Some quirks about me:
  • Coffee fuels me
  • I've been a vegetarian for over 14 years, I also live with celiac disease
  • I'm an avid amateur photographer
  • I swear (WAY too much). That's your warning. And sometimes I write about TMI
  • I love peanut butter and I hate wearing socks and shoes
Thank you for stopping by!
